Capstone Overview

Putting the whole course together

What the capstone is

The capstone is the final section of Working Well With AI. It is not a new set of lessons — it is a framework that consolidates everything from the course into a practical, repeatable workflow.

The goal: give you one mental model you can use every time you sit down to use AI for any real work task.

Why it exists

After going through 10 lessons, it is easy to remember individual ideas without having a clear picture of how they fit together. The capstone bridges that gap.

It answers the question: "Now that I know all this, what do I actually do?"

The framework

The capstone teaches a 5-step model called the Practical AI Workflow:

  1. Frame — What is this? Why does it matter?
  2. Aim — Who is it for? What outcome do I want?
  3. Guide — What tone, format, depth, and constraints should it follow?
  4. Refine — What is weak, vague, off-target, or too generic?
  5. Reuse — Can this become a template, checklist, or repeatable process?

These five steps can be worked through in under two minutes for simple tasks. For complex tasks, each step deserves more deliberate attention.

How to use the capstone

Read the Practical AI Workflow document and use it as your ongoing reference. Print it. Keep it in a note. Build it into your workflow.

Over time, these steps will become automatic. You will start framing and aiming before you write a single word of the prompt. That is the goal — not five steps to follow, but a way of thinking that becomes second nature.

What changes when you use this framework

Before the course: You write the first thing that comes to mind. You get mediocre output. You either accept it or try again with almost the same phrasing.

After the course: You take thirty seconds to run through the five steps before you type. You write a more complete request. You get substantially better output. When it is not quite right, you know exactly how to fix it.

That thirty seconds compounds into hours of time saved and work that is easier to be proud of.
